I’m Shelby and I am so glad you stopped by! A little bit about me… I’m native to Orlando (yes i’ve been to Disney World many, many times) and currently reside in the sweet little town of Athens, GA. I am studying Nutrition science at the University of Georgia in hopes to go to medical school and become a doctor! I am so passionate about helping others in any way possible whether that be giving advice about healthy foods and exercise or simply making someone smile.
Aside from being a student at UGA I am a proud mama (don’t get too ahead of yourself) to the sweetest dog in the world! He is a 1 year old maltipoo named Noah and he certainly owns a big part of my heart. Don’t worry, I’m sure you will be seeing lots of pictures in future blogs. 🙂
My family!! I must say that I am so happy to be the baby of my family! I have always loved having a big family- I have a brother named Tommy, 28, who has just graduated at the top of his class in Law school (I’m very proud if you couldn’t tell) and is working as a Business Lawyer in NYC.
My parents are the best- I just love them so much! My parents have always been so supportive of me in everything I do. My mom is a stay at home mom who raised four kids (and pretty darn well I’d say!) and my dad is a doctor (kidney specialist) who owns a research center in Orlando. My parents have taught me so much- I thank God every day for my whole family!
I can’t believe it has taken me this long to mention the love of my life- my boyfriend, Cameron! I have actually known Cameron for a very long time- we were in the same kindergarten class! It was only until about 9th or 10th grade that we became closer friends and eventually started dating in March of 11th grade. Cameron brings me so much joy! We have been dating for almost four and a half years now. I believe that we truly bring out the best in each other. If you’re reading this Cameron- I love you!
In addition to my loving family and dearest boyfriend I have to say I have some of the best friends in the world! You will be seeing much more of them in future blogging I’m sure- just didn’t want y’all feeling shortchanged- I love you guys!!!
Nutrition has been a huge part of my life for about five years now. Believe it or not, when I was a kid all I ate (or wanted to eat) was chocolate, ice cream, and french fries from McDonalds. And when I say “kid” I mean from very young until beginning of 11th grade. I just have a natural sweet tooth what can I say! My passion for eating healthy came about during the second half of my junior year. Something sparked me to try eating foods that were more nutritious and fueled my body to do all it needed to.
At this time, my passion for exercise grew even more. I had always been an active girl- in high school I ran track, worked out with a trainer a few days a week, participated in cheerleading- but I never had the drive to exercise the way I do now. Exercise is so much more to me than just working out- it lifts my mood, makes my whole day brighter, and makes me feel confident! I have certainly found the balance when it comes to pushing myself- knowing when to take a rest day is as important as making it to the gym in the first place (although I will admit rest days aren’t my favorite). When it comes to workouts- I love to mix things up! I try to do different things throughout the week and never repeat the same exercise two days in a row. I love lifting weights, spinning, Zumba (or any form of dance!), stairmaster, power yoga, fight club (a mix of boxing and interval training), Barbell group classes, swimming, and many others. I feel like it’s so important to mix things up- it keeps your body guessing and yields great results!
Back to my eating… when I started this blog I was actually a Vegan- yep, no animal products at all. At the beginning of the diet I felt excited, motivated, and very energetic. Slowly, I started to feel like I wasn’t getting all of the nutrients my body needed and after 8 full months of being Vegan I decided it just wasn’t for me. I felt my body needed more and was craving my old eating habits- which were healthy to begin with. I learned a lot through the experience and it definitely made me start to incorporate more veggies into my diet but I feel so much more balanced by consuming lean meats and low fat dairy. Through this blog I really want to share with you my passion for fitness, eating healthy (but really, really yummy foods), and my tips for being your best self.
